This weekend I found two interesting job titles. The first was erection supervisor, the other penetration tester. While Google finds both in large number, Xing know no erection supervisor and only two penetration testers. Probably it is rather strange to have those titles on the business card.

Europe meets Asia

Yesterday I a had new experience. Having dinner in Taichung, a waitress approached me asking for a picture with me. I did not know I am that famous.

Then today arriving in Shanghai (no trace of typhoon Wipha), the officer welcomed me with a wonderful smile. Europe meets Asia, very nice indeed.

Gestern Abend war ich in Wiesbaden bei der Verleihung des deutschen PR-Preises 2007 der DPRG. Mit Freude und Stolz konnte ich erleben, wie mein Vater als PR-Kopf des Jahres ausgezeichnet und von seine Kollegen gefeiert wurde.

Ansgar Zerfa� begr�ndete die Entscheidung der Jury wie folgt:

Wer h�tte es mehr verdient als Manfred Piwinger, hier und heute in Wiesbaden die Auszeichnung als PR-Kopf des Jahres zu erhalten. Denn dass wir alle in diesem glanzvollen Rahmen zusammen sind, ist nicht zuletzt auf Sie, lieber Herr Piwinger, zur�ckzuf�hren. Sie haben als langj�hriger Vorsitzender der Jury des Deutschen PR-Preises den Ansto� daf�r gegeben, dass die ehrw�rdige "Goldene Br�cke" zu einem modernen Branchenpreis weiterentwickelt wurde und zusammen mit dem FAZ-Institut im Rahmen dieser Gala verliehen wird.

Wer glaubt, dass die "silver ager", zu denen die Marktforscher Manfred Piwinger zweifelsohne z�hlen w�rden, f�r die PR-Branche vor allem wegen ihrer sch�nen Anekdoten wichtig sind, irrt. Die Erfahrung und der Blick �ber den Tellerrand sind heute und in Zukunft wichtiger denn je. Erfolgreiche Kommunikation ben�tigt die Sicht auf das Ganze, die Orientierung an unternehmerischen Zielen und das kreative Know-how jener, die schon viele Schlachten um die �ffentliche Meinung geschlagen haben.

Hacking airline security

Faking airline security is one of the preferred playfields of totally incompetent interior ministers (arguably a redundant description). A week ago I had to travel to the country famous for mad cow disease. Even though I could fly there with normal hand luggage, i.e. subject to brain-dead EU regulations, they would not let me fly home with more than one piece of hand luggage. Totally absurd.

Now, Bruce Schneier, world's leading security expert and critic of security theater, announced the Second Annual Movie-Plot Threat Contest. This way he wants to force airline "security" into banning even more things to finally make absurdity obvious to everybody.

Stefan Haider ist Besessen

Endlich mal wieder im Kabarett gewesen. Stefan Haider hatte ich vor einiger Zeit an einem Abend im Niedermair gesehen, bei dem zahlreiche Wiener Kabarettisten aufgetreten sind. Worum es geht, ist schwer zu sagen. Irgendwie um Sex und Religion, M�nner und Frauen. Aber egal, es war sehr witzig und ist auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert.

Fake Security

From tomorrow on new legislation limits liquids in carry-on luggage. It is well known that this will not increase security. As Bruce Schneier, creator of The Big Book of Terrorist Plots, rightfully points out:

Security measures that require us to guess correctly don't work, because invariably we will guess wrong. It's not security, it's security theater: measures designed to make us feel safer but not actually safer.

Too bad the alleged terrorist plot used liquid explosive not explosives woven into fabrics. Flying would be so much more fun! So I slightly disagree with Bruce who said:

Although we should all be glad that Richard Reid wasn't the "underwear bomber."

We did know that before

The USA Senate's Intelligence Committee found out that there is no evidence of formal links between Iraqi ex-leader Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda leaders prior to the 2003 war. We knew that before.

Bush admitted that the USA has secret prisons to let people disappear. We knew that before.

Bush wants to have trials without the burden of proof, the basis for any fair trial. We did not know that before, but it comes as no surprise.

The Feeling is Back

Once in a while I use the hotel pool for some apnea training. After another long break I did it again and hit 3:55, extremely satisfying and relaxing.

A colleague joined me to try it out. Even though he is a strong smoker, he did some 3:20. Sensational. There can only be one reason: The tar in the lung trained him to do without oxygen. With this minimal consumption he can stay under water really long without breathing. Tricky. Is this the beginning of a new trend?

Terrorism not prosecuted to protect "national security"

A lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge of the USA against terrorists who kidnapped, beat, and sodomized Khaled al-Masri. The court ruled that the lawsuit poses a grave risk of damage to national security by exposing government secrets. No comment.

Strong statistical evidence for election fraud by Bush

Steve Freeman provides strong statistical evidence of election fraud by Bush, he compares exit polls with official counts and finds a lot of significant peculiarities. Then he compares the security of voting machines with slot machines, the latter highly regulated and protected against fraud.

Form a logic point of view it is interesting to observe that Freeman's findings are consistent with Bush's ignorance of law, in particular international law and human rights.

Music Industry Reveals Organized Crime Activities

The music industry keeps telling us that they are the victim of criminals. They made parliaments write laws in their favor to make illegal fair use of music by the buyer. They also distributed false facts and hatred against their enemy — the music fan. So one could assume that they celebrate each customer who after all still puts money on the table for fake CDs and "digital content" in any other form. Not so! They use methods used by organized crime to hijack computers to attack the legal user (even after the new laws).

Lesson learned: The more the legislator gives to them the more they escalate their illegal attacks.

To quote — once more — John Perry Barlow: "The Armageddon of digital control, the real death match between the Party of the Past and Party of the Future, will be fought over copyright"

Bush ridicules human rights

After amnesty international had a serious report about the USA violating human rights in many cases and thereby "diminishing its moral authority and setting a global example encouraging abuse by other nations" Bush's speaker only ridiculed human rights. There is, of course, another interpretation: They might not even consider their victims human beings. Either way, history repeats.

Chutzpa

Newsweek had a report in which it was mentioned that Bush's troops are insulting religious feelings of their prisoners. White House knew about that report before and did not complain. Suddenly after the report appeared the source did not remember anything, very surprising. Not only the circumstances of that memory lack are surprising, there are also reports of the Red Cross confirming the war crimes. But still White House still has the chutzpa of pressing Newsweek to not only take back the report, but to "help repair the damage to the image of the United States in the Muslim world". What do they imagine here? The long series of torture with outmost cruelty with the terror victims dying after they have been virtually destroyed, a report describes that their dead bodies looked worse than from people run over by a bus. It certainly does not make any difference that those terror victims were presumed innocent and tortured just for the "fun of it". If they would have been guilty of any crime by any means it would not be any better. Or does the terrorist central in the White House think about the great heroes bringing their victims to Uzbekistan or Egypt for torture? Or do they think of their terrorists kidnapping innocent people from democratic countries in Europe?
